Dilute Tortoiseshell / Tabby

Mama was a stray that lived in the neighbors bushes with her litter of 3 kittens. We caught the kittens, rehomed them and when we finally caught Mama, she was pregnant again. We have rehomed them and she still hasn't warmed up to people, being leary of everyone, except for me - the keeper of the cats, feeder and caretaker. She lets me pet her from time to time, but then gets fearful. She is sweet, gorgeous and gets along well with the one kitten we kept. She plays, purrs and comes out of her crate to run and lay in the sunshine. Lays in a sidechair and a little box to get cozy, but when people enter the room, she hurries back to her crate. In time, she can be socialized and tamed to be a sweet girl. I have other cats in another room, and an ill father that I tend to and health issues of my own, otherwise I would love to just sit in her room and get her to come around.

She lived outdoors for months in the harsh winters, busy streets and with people that did not care for cats. They had Animal control come and take one of her kittens, so she is fearful. I fed her 3x a day, knowing she had kittens to also feed. Upon finding her "home", I would put food into the planter for her and babies. She would get close but still would not let me touch her. I caught her and got her fixed after her last litter of kittens. She was calm when I took her to the vet, let me put her in the carrier, didn't meow the whole trip there and was very calm afterwards. She still cannot warm up to people, but if I had the time, I feel she would warm up like nobody's business.

I think the ideal home would be a childless home, perhaps with 1 or 2 cats that are welcoming, someone that is calm and has time to be caring, warm and understanding of her background.

The vet cleared her with a clean bill of health, she has her rabies shot and is fixed. She seems quite healthy, litter box trained and crate trained to sleep in it nightly.

Note: Mama lives in Victorville (San Bernardino county).
